Neuropsycholysis is a natural process that can be experienced and observed on both a psychological and neurological level and serves sustainable self-exploration with the help of altered states of consciousness. Based on our many years of experience as a psychologist and neurologist in therapeutic work and our shared interest in light, we have developed an approach to applicable principles that underlie the effectiveness of any therapy. These principles can be combined with a wide variety of approaches and go far beyond “therapy”. Although the focus is on stimulation with light, the exploration of “inner” worlds through the exploratory spirit of the light traveler is of decisive importance

Mystery Cults - Ars Moriendi

In the late middle ages there was the principle of "Ars Moriendi", the art of dying. The art was to grasp death as a signpost to life. "Die before you die" recommends Dr. Engelbert Winkler (psychotherapist and thanato psychologist): "It is known that people who have had very deep near-death experiences, like I had, that this can cause radical changes in their attitudes toward themselves and their lifes ..." He compares the Hypnagogic Light Experience with the Lucia N°03 meditation lamp to a neuronal piece of art. "And if you imagine that experiencing a Lucia N°03 session could be exactly what you might later recognize at the beginning of your dying process ... then you can already get a feel for it and that's really fun." ...

An Interview with Dr. Dirk Proeckl und Dr. Engelbert Winkler in the "Friends Stansted Hall" in Stansted, UK, 19. Januar 2013.
In this video interview they answer some questions about Lucia N⁰03 in relation to art and also comment on what artists and scientists can do for each other today. They also discuss their invention Lucia N⁰03, a Neuro-stimulator Lamp which is in the tradition of the dream machine from the 1960's but is much more powerful. They compose light session programs which comprise of varying frequencies of light (a bright light and a strobopic light) to induce a hypnagogic state of consciousness in the mind of the user who sits or lyes in front of the machine with their eyes closed.

The effect of light on the brain and the pineal gland plays a significant role in the benefits of light therapy and meditation with flickering lights. Research has shown that exposure to certain types of light, such as the gentle flickering of the Lucia N°03 meditation lamp, can stimulate the production of alpha brain waves.
Alpha brain waves are associated with a relaxed yet alert state of mind, similar to the state achieved during meditation. These brain waves promote a sense of calmness and deep relaxation, allowing individuals to enter a meditative state more easily and experience the full benefits of their practice.
Additionally, the pineal gland, located in the center of the brain, is responsible for the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep and wakefulness. Light is a powerful regulator of melatonin production, and exposure to bright light during the day helps suppress melatonin production, promoting wakefulness and alertness.
On the other hand, exposure to dim and flickering light during meditation can stimulate the production of melatonin, signaling to the body that it is time to relax and prepare for sleep. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with insomnia or have difficulty winding down at the end of the day.
In addition to the physiological effects, the Lucia N°03 meditation lamp with flickering lights can also have profound emotional and mental benefits. Studies have shown that regular meditation can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress by providing a sense of calm and relaxation. When combined with flickering light, the benefits of meditation can be further enhanced.
The soothing and rhythmic flickering of the lights helps to create a serene and tranquil environment, allowing the mind to enter a deeper state of meditation. This can help individuals achieve a greater sense of inner peace, clarity, and mental focus. The gentle flickering also serves as a visual cue, guiding the mind to stay present and focused on the meditation practice.
Furthermore, the soft, warm glow emitted by meditation lamps can evoke feelings of comfort and security. This can help individuals feel more at ease and grounded during their meditation sessions, promoting a deeper connection with their inner selves.
Meditation with flickering lights is also known to enhance mindfulness. By focusing on the subtle movement and changes in the light patterns, individuals are encouraged to be fully present in the moment, noticing their thoughts and sensations without judgment. This cultivates a heightened sense of self-awareness and mindfulness, leading to a greater understanding and acceptance of one's thoughts and emotions.
In addition to these emotional and mental benefits, meditation with flickering lights can also have a positive impact on creativity. The gentle and hypnotic nature of the flickering light can stimulate the creative centers.
The term "Hypnagogic Light Experience" refers to vivid visual perceptions experienced as one transitions from wakefulness to sleep, often characterized by colorful imagery, patterns, or flashes of light. These phenomena, considered a subtype of hypnagogic hallucinations, occur during the initial stages of falling asleep and can be spontaneous or induced through techniques like meditation or sensory deprivation. Emerging from the brain's natural processes during shifts in consciousness, they resemble dreams and evoke feelings of relaxation, disorientation, or euphoria. Researchers studying consciousness, perception, and sleep find hypnagogic light experiences fascinating, while they also intersect with art, meditation, and spiritual practices.
Neuropsycholysis is a therapy that combines elements of neuropsychology and psychoanalysis to treat various mental health disorders. It focuses on understanding the relationship between brain functioning and psychological symptoms, offering a holistic approach to treatment. Neuropsycholysis aims to address underlying neurological factors that may contribute to mental health issues, providing a unique perspective on therapy.
Flickering light has been shown to have various effects on the brain, including improving arousal, cognition, and brain function. Research has indicated that certain wavelengths of light, such as blue light, can impact these cognitive processes. Additionally, light therapy, which involves providing the correct intensity, duration, and timing of light exposure, has been used to treat sleep difficulties and mood symptoms. The effects of flickering light on the brain are an area of study in the field of neuroscience.
NeuroArt is an emerging field that combines neuroscience and art to explore the relationship between the brain and creativity. This innovative approach uses various techniques such as brain imaging and neurofeedback to capture and visualize brain activity during the artistic process. By analyzing brain patterns and understanding how they relate to artistic expression, NeuroArt offers insights into the cognitive and emotional aspects of creativity. This field provides a unique perspective on the intersection of science and art, opening up new possibilities for understanding and enhancing human creativity.
The hypnagogic light experience offers a unique journey into altered states of consciousness, blending ancient practices with modern technology. By immersing oneself in a carefully crafted environment illuminated by flickering lights, individuals embark on a transformative exploration of their inner landscapes. This innovative approach to wellness harnesses the power of light to induce deep relaxation, stimulate creativity, and unlock the potential for profound insights. With its roots in neuroscientific research and therapeutic traditions, the hypnagogic light experience holds promise for enhancing mental well-being, promoting relaxation, and facilitating personal growth.
Lucid dreaming is a fascinating phenomenon where the dreamer becomes aware that they are dreaming while still immersed in the dream state. In this state, individuals can often exert some degree of control over their dreams, shaping the dream narrative and environment according to their desires. Lucid dreaming has captured the interest of researchers and enthusiasts alike due to its potential for exploring the depths of consciousness, creativity, and personal insight. Through techniques such as reality checks and dream journaling, individuals can cultivate the ability to recognize and engage in lucid dreaming, unlocking a realm of boundless possibilities within the unconscious mind.
Heliotropic breathing, a technique developed by Dr. Engelbert Winkler, involves alternating deep breaths with breath-holding phases akin to Cheyne-Stokes breathing. It stems from research on light, breathing, and consciousness. This method facilitates self-guided exploration into one's consciousness, inducing profound meditative states potentially linked to the pineal gland's production of DMT. Nobuo Shioya utilized similar techniques for therapeutic purposes, noting their correlation with longevity. Current research suggests psychedelic states induced by such practices may treat previously untreatable illnesses, prompting discussion of a psychiatric revolution.
